Apple iPhone remains on top

The latest figures from comScore have been released,
and it is no surprise that Apple remained the top smartphone
manufacturer in the U.S. for the three months that ended in
February. The company had a 41.7% market share during
that time period, down slightly from the 41.8% of the U.S.
market that it held for the three months ended in November.

The more interesting dynamic in the industry took place on
the Android side of the field where Samsung lost 1.1 percentage
points from the November tally. That gave Samsung 28.6%
of the stateside market during December, January and February.

HTC to skip update to Android 5.0.2

A tweet sent out by ROM developer @LlabTooFeR
indicates that outside of the HTC One M9, which comes
with Android 5.0.2 and Sense 7.0 out of the box, that
combination will not be found on any other HTC handset.

In other words, the manufacturer is skipping Android 5.0.2
altogether and instead will update certain models with
Android 5.1 and Sense 7.0.

According to a second tweet, the HTC One M8 will receive
Sense 7.0 as will the HTC One M8s, the HTC Desire EYE,
the HTC Butterfly 2 and some other devices. The HTC One
M7 is not supposed to receive Android 5.1

Lastly Anushka Sharma’s boyfriend Virat Kohli broke his silence

Virat Kohli said, “should be ashamed of themselves”
as “no one has won more matches” than him in the
last five years. He broke his silence after a long time
during the IPL 8 promotional ceremony of his team
 Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Virat couldn’t stop himself after girlfriend
Anushka Sharma had to take all the unnecessary
comments and blames on social networking sites.

He said he was disappointed. He also said that in last five years the number of matches he have helped India win and the consistently he have played is more than anyone else did in the team. He thinks there’s nobody else in the team who has done better than me.

He also said that to see those reactions after just one match was very disappointing for him personally. It makes him lose faith in a lot of people.

He said, “It’s a good thing in a way. You get to know who’s with you and who’s not. It was not in my control. But the reactions were very disappointing.”

Android 5.0 update bricks Nexus 7

For some Nexus 7 owners both the first and second-gen models,
the thrill of updating their tablet to Android 5.0 quickly turned
into horror when the update bricked their pride and joy.

And to make matters worse, it seems that Asus and Google
are not responding to the many complaints that have piled up
on Twitter. If anger were electricity, you would be able to
power a large metropolitan city for days with the bile posted
on hashtag #Nexus7 bricked.

While no theory for the "bricking" has come from official sources,
the affected tablets do not boot up past the image of the Google logo.

The Jawbone UP3 is finally on track

After a slight delay, the Jawbone UP3 is finally on
track to arriving on store shelves on April 20th.
The official release date has been moved to this
late-April timing after Jawbone had to re-evaluate
some features, and it has decided to scrap the
10-meter water-proofing that the UP3 was
originally supposed to have.

The Jawbone UP3 went up for pre-order a couple
of months ago, and since then, customers have
been waiting for an official release date. Luckily,
those early customers will get their pre-orders
following the schedule the orders were placed

Apple talks with musicians about exclusive streaming

When the next iOS update is released, it should
come with Apple's revamped Beats Music feature.
Apple purchased Beats for $3 billion in May of last
year, and speculation has the tech titan offering a $9.99
a month streaming music service for individuals and a
$14.99 plan for families. Looking to compete against
such popular music streamers as Spotify, Apple is
hoping to sign up certain musicians to exclusivity deals.

For example, a report is circulating that Apple is in talks
with Florence and the Machine to get the limited
streaming rights to a track off the group's next album.

Jack Heifner's three-woman comedy "Vanities"

Jack Heifner's three-woman comedy "Vanities" -
a sort of "Three Little Cheerleaders and How They Grew"
 - became a surprise success in the late 1970s. Concurrent
with the New York run, and for a few years after, "Vanities"
enjoyed a vogue on stages across America as one of those
plays seemingly staged by every little theater, college theater and
dinner theater. Convention-bound Joanne is the prude, shocked
by anything that veers from her strict moral code and social norms.

Note the aforementioned date and you'll guess the announcement
that comes over the public-address system at the scene's close,
foreshadowing further shocks and drastic social changes to come
during the next few years. The heroines next appear as college
seniors and sorority sisters in 1968 - still friends but beginning to
grow apart. Disillusioned Kathy has quit her teaching job and,
recovered from a nervous breakdown, is now a kept woman
with a swank apartment and time to reflect.

MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina display

The 13-inch Macbook Pro hasn't had a radical redesign,
and its shape, dimensions, weight and port configurations
are identical to the outgoing model. That means two Thunderbolt
2 ports, a USB 3.0 port, a headphone jack and a MagSafe 2
port on the left, and a second USB 3.0 port, SDXC card slot
and HDMI 1.4 port on the right.

The screen resolution is 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, but you actually get the screen real-estate of a 1,280 x 800 pixel-resolution display due to the pixel-doubled effect that provides Retina-like sharpness. Apps like SwitchResX allow you to access even higher resolutions than OS X allows, stretching all the way up to 3,360 x 2,100.

Text is too tiny to be legible at that setting, but opting for one in-between, such as 1,920 x 1,200, lets you fit much more of spreadsheets and other apps into the display than any of the default screen resolutions at the expensive of clarity.

CPU: 2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB L3 cache (Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz)
Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics 6100
RAM: 8GB
Screen: 13.3-inch IPS, 2,560 x 1,600 pixels
Storage: 128GB SSD
Optical Drive: n/a
Ports: 2 x Thunderbolt 2, 2 x USB 3.0, SDXC card slot, HDMI, headphone
Connectivity: 801.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0
Camera: FaceTime HD
Weight: 3.48lbs (1.58kg)
Size: 12.35 x 8.62 x 0.71-inches W x D x H

The MacBook Pro is significantly faster than its predecessor, and while we still wouldn't recommend the 13-inch MacBook Pro or any other machine with integrated graphics for serious gaming, our benchmarks show that graphics performance has improved.

Sofía Vergara tells all to Vanity Fair

Sofía Vergara tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Lili Anolik
she almost didn’t end up with fiancé Joe Manganiello for
one reason: he was just too good-looking. “The day that I
sent the press release [announcing the breakup with a different fiancé,
Nick Loeb, Joe immediately contacted Jesse Tyler Ferguson Modern
Family’s Mitchell Pritchett], like, Please, please, please tell her I want her number.

And I’m like, Jesse, no, he’s too handsome,” Vergara tells Anolik. “Then, after two days of Jesse trying to convince me, I’m like, O.K., give him my number. I’m thinking, I’m in New Orleans shooting, and he’s in L.A. Nothing’s going to happen. But we started talking a lot, and then he showed up in New Orleans. Since then we’ve been inseparable. There’s nothing about him I’d change other than the fact that he’s four years younger than me [he’s 38 to her 42].” The story is accompanied by a sexy photo shoot by contributing photographer Annie Leibovitz that plays up Vergara’s role as what Anolik calls “hubba-hubba incarnate.” In a video interview on VF.com, Vergara says of working with Leibovitz, “It’s amazing when you work with somebody that you trust so much. She told me things that maybe with other photographers I would have felt like, What? No bra?! Like what? With that dog on top of me?! Like here I was just doing it because I knew she was going to take care of me.” Vergara also talks about transitioning from fame in the Spanish-speaking entertainment world to international superstardom, telling Anolik she decided to turn the very traits that many Hollywood insiders would consider liabilities into gold. She says, “I hired the speech coach, and you have to work so much. It’s exhausting. It’s also boring. And I have a bad ear, you know? I’ve been in this country for 20-something years and I still sound like this . . . So I was going to auditions and the only thing I could focus on was the position of the tongue.

The 82nd Academy Awards

Jason Reitman: As I mentioned last time out, this series has officially returned. Yes, once again I’m going to be taking a look back at a recent (or now recent-ish) Oscar lineup and explaining what my vote would have been in each of the big eight categories we all follow so intently each season. I previously mentioned that potentially I could do this once a week with previous Academy Award ceremonies, and while I’m going to be attempting to do just that, time will still tell if it’s something that gets stuck with or not. Again, if nothing else, this continues to give you an interesting look into my cinematic tastes. Over the course of the year you can sort of get a feel for what my current favorites are, but now we can look to the past a bit more. Alright then, here goes nothing folks…behold my picks for this particular ceremony: Best Picture – Up in the Air The nominees here were A Serious Man, An Education, Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious, and Up. The main snub here, in my book at least, was (500) Days of Summer, and I nearly went with the actual winner in The Hurt Locker, but Up in the Air was my #1 film of this year, so that made it pretty academic in the end. Best Director – Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker A history making and diverse category this time out, the field consisted of Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, James Cameron for Avatar, Lee Daniels for Precious, Jason Reitman for Up in the Air, and Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds. I believe Marc Webb was snubbed for (500) Days of Summer and really wish that Reitman had come closer to winning, but when you come right down to it, I can’t argue with Bigelow. The first woman to ever win Best Director gets my vote here as well. Best Actor – George Clooney for Up in the Air Here the nominees were Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, George Clooney for Up in the Air, Colin Firth for A Single Man, Morgan Freeman for Invictus, and Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker. The Academy missed the boat on nominating Sam Rockwell for Moon, but aside from him, I’d have to go for Clooney. Best Actress – Carey Mulligan for An Education The big snub to me here was Zooey Deschanel

HTC has started rolling out the new Android 5.0.2 Lollipop

HTC has started rolling out the new Android 5.0.2
Lollipop update for its selfie smartphone - Desire
EYE. To our surprise, the Taiwanese company has
started seeding this Lollipop update first in its home
country - Taiwan. HTC Desire EYE Taiwan receives
 Android 5.0.2. ROM version is 2.19.709.1 1008.9MB.—

 LlabTooFeR (@LlabTooFeR) April 10, 2015 The new
Lollipop system update bears 2.19.709.1 build version
and weighs 1008.9MB heavy. The update brings all great
features of the Lollipop version but surprisingly doesn't
bump the Sense UI to Sense 7 version. Instead, the update

has Sense 6.55 on board. LlabTooFer, a ROM developer,
estimated that the Sense 7.0 UI will arrive with Android 5.1
update and will be made available for several existing models.
We look forward to the improvements especially in the camera section.

LG tablet to get updated to Android Lollipop

So far the only LG tablet to get updated to Android
Lollipop is the G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition,
unsurprisingly since in that case such rollouts are
handled by Google. However, if you own one of LG's
three midrange tablets launched last year, you're
apparently in for a treat too.

The LG G Pad 7.0, G Pad 8.0, and G Pad 10.1
should all run Lollipop starting this Sunday, on April 12.
This is obviously the intended day for the commencing
of the rollout.

Getting it to all the devices out there might
take a few days, keep that in mind. And as usual, we might
see different regions scoring the update at different times.
On the other hand, LG says the updates will be available
to download on its website as well, so perhaps you'll be
able to grab the necessary files and install them through
your computer if you don't like waiting.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime that made its
international debut last fall is now available at a US
carrier for the first time. Said company is Cricket
Wireless, the AT&T subsidiary focused on prepaid
plans. The Grand Prime is already listed in Cricket's
 online store.

Cricket Wireless today released a new Samsung smartphone that won't break the bank: the Galaxy Grand Prime, a device that's been available in Asia since last year.

Customers can buy the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime from Cricket for $179.99, no contract required. The highlight features of the new handset include LTE connectivity, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5 MP wide-angle lens front-facing camera. The smartphone also comes with a 5.0-inch, 540 x 960 pixels display, a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of expandable internal memory

It's priced at $179.99. Since this is a prepaid carrier,
the price is without any long-term contract signing requirements.

The device is in stock in white. The smartphone comes
with a 5-inch 540x960 touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera,
a 5 MP selfie snapper, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable
internal storage, and a 2,600 mAh battery. At the helm we
can find Qualcomm's Snapdragon 410 chipset with a
 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 306 GPU.
